Natasha Henstridge

Last week I had a meeting at Mosaic. In the reception area, I met actress Natasha Henstridge. She was nice and cool. Here's a drawing I did of Natasha based on a photo.

Krysten Ritter - "Breaking Bad"

Another current TV show I like a lot is "Breaking Bad." It has good writing and solid acting. Things actually happen to the characters and they don't necessarily go back to how they were when the episode begins like almost all of boring network TV. It doesn't go on formula. Here is a drawing one of the actresses on the show Krysten Ritter.

Land of the Lost

I saw an advance screening of "Land of the Lost" (written by Chris Henchy & Dennis McNicholas and directed by Brad Silberling) tonight. As a kid, I was aware of the show, but never watched it because if I was watching TV on Saturday morning it's going to be cartoons and not cheap live-action stuff. The movie which stars Will Ferrell, Danny McBride and Anna Friel is hilarious and adventurous.

Ferrell play a scientist with a crazy time warp theory who is made into a laughingstock by the evil TV news reader Matt Lauer. A young Cambridge educated scientist played by Anna Friel convinces Ferrell's character that his theory isn't whacked and he finishes his dimensional machine. They go to a cave (lead by tour guide Danny McBride) where the tachyon readings are strong and end up in another dimension where there are dinosaurs, lizard men, and monkey men.

I think this movie is aimed at kids, but there are a bunch of funny sex jokes that will go over their heads. I say this as a compliment, no one in film or TV plays a redneck jerk better than Danny McBride. It's a fun movie and worth watching.

Nikki - "Lost"

Here's Kiele Sanchez as Nikki from "Lost."

My favorite character from "Lost" is John Locke because he is a man of faith who believes he is special (and might be proven right).

My second favorite is Mr. Eko because he is too is a man of faith and also a badass ass kicker.

My next favorite is Nikki because Kiele Sanchez is by far the best looking cast member ever on "Lost." Yes, I'm easy that way.

Amber Heard

Amber Heard is going to blow up as big film star in the near future. She would be good in something written by me. Hopefully that will happen since we are both represented by Endeavor. Here's a drawing I did of her.

Taylor Swift

Here's a drawing I did of Taylor Swift. I can't say that I'm a fan of her music because I haven't heard enough of it, but I have heard her talk about her songwriting. She's an introspective writer like me so I give her artistic respect.

More Doutzen

Another drawing of Doutzen Kroes by me.

I was talking with my buddy Bobby Rubio not too long ago about who I would cast for a "Gun Fu" movie if it was up to me. For Dr. Witt (the Nazi robot designer) I would audition Doutzen and if she showed that she could act, I would cast her. I've seen her do a bit for a Victoria's Secret web thing and I think she could pull it off.

Juliet - "Lost"

Here's a drawing I did of Elizabeth Mitchell as Juliet.

After this season, "Lost" has only one more before it ends. I wonder if any of its actors will be able to move on into features and blow up there. I think of them all, Josh Holloway who plays Sawyer has the best potential. If/when I get any juice in this town, I will cast him as a lead in one of my films and make him into an action star.

Intrigue

I finally finished inking this piece. It took me about 8 years to ink this Intrigue cover that my buddy Michael O’Hare penciled. The extreme time wasn’t because it was a particular difficult piece to ink, but because when I first started inking it, I realized that Intrigue would be delayed (three issues had come out at the time). I didn’t know it would be this long and the fourth issue still hasn’t come out.

Various things happened to cause the delay (changing penilers, FedEx losing art). Presently, I do have Intrigue #4-#6 all in pencils (it’s a 7-issue series). At some point (mostly because of all the problems on the book), I just felt a desire to do new things and so I moved on.

On and off during the past 8 years I would ink a few spots here and there on this cover. I generally like having more than one piece around when I’m inking just so that I can switch pages when one page has wet ink.

Francis Portela penciled most of the unseen issues and I have managed to put some of those pages to use. Those pages that I’m inking in my film “The Secret World of Comic Book Artists” are Francis’ Intrigue pages. My actors, Eric Weldon and AnnaLynne McCord, went fully into character and did some actual inking on those pages. Unfortunately their inking skills aren’t up to mine, so those pages are unusable now. Inking is mostly a mindless task (as any inker will tell you). You can talk on the phone and watch TV while doing it. But acting and inking at the same time is very difficult. Only skilled professions should attempt it and only under a doctor’s supervision and with the expressed written consent of Major League Baseball.

I do have photocopies of those film inked pages, so they can be recreated. I will also, one day, put out the completed Intrigue story and art.
