Jedi Girls

Darryl Young and I went nuts (some say I was already there) and did a bunch of Jedi girl drawings during the summer. Pencils by Darryl, inks by me.

Scarlett

I did this drawing of Scarlett Johansson from a photo. Check out her new film "Match Point". It's a good clever movie by Woody Allen. Scarlett is going to win an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance.

Kong is King

I saw an advance screening of King Kong tonight. It’s a thrilling beautiful film. It takes a little too long in the story before we get to Skull Island, but once there, director Peter Jackson puts his foot on the accelerator on the film’s intensity level and only lets up occasionally to allow you to catch your breath.

The special effects are remarkable. Skull Island is both a scary-ass place to be and majestically beautiful. Kong is expressive and believable. The dinosaurs are phenomenal. Naomi Watts is illuminating and her large expressive eyes serves her well in her part. Those of you who are worried that Jack Black would be too annoyingly distracting in this movie should have no concern.

King Kong is not just a special effects-action movie. It also have funny moments and is touching. Living in Los Angeles, I’m lucky to have seen most of the so-called major contenders for best movie of the year (Memoirs of a Geisha, Syriana, etc.) except for Munich (which I hope to see in the next few weeks). Before I saw King Kong, my choice for best film was between The Constant Gardner and Crash. Now I have to put King Kong into the mix.
