Hyperkinetic and The Wackness

Hyperkinetic #1 is coming out next week and I'm doing a signing at Meltdown Comics (7522 Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90046) Wednesday, July 2, 2008, 7-9 PM. I'm also doing a free sketch for everyone who buys a copy of Hyperkinetic.

Click here to read a review of Hyperkinetic from Secret Identity Podcast.

Here's the cover for Hyperkinetic #2, penciled by Matteo Scalera, colored by Oscar Celestini, inked by me.

Want to see a movie with some kick ass acting and writing? Check out “The Wackness” written and directed by Jonathan Levine and staring Ben Kingsley, Olivia Thirlby, and Josh Peck. The movie is about a loser pot dealer and his summer between graduating high school before going to university in 1994. Kingsley is amazing as his whacked out psychiatrist friend/buyer and Olivia Thirlby is his elusive love. Olivia will be a big time Hollywood actress very soon. She’s already a great actress.

Alice Eve and Redbelt

Here's a drawing I did of Alice Eve from the movie "Starter for 10." The performances by her and James McAvoy were good, but the writing, though not bad, was predictable. Everything you expect to happen, happens. I was at the brink of stopping watching when Alice popped up on the screen. I would like to see her in something better written. Perhaps something by me.

An example of a film that is cleverly written is Redbelt written and directed by the great David Mamet. Amazing actor Chiwetel Ejiofor plays a Brazilian jiujitsu master who attempts to live a life of honor. The evil and corruptness that is Hollywood enters his life to sabotage that. Being the egocentric that I am, I take this film to be a warning to me as I step through the archway into this devious world. It appears that in this life I must walk a path towards enlightenment. In the process I must keep the purity of my writing and art. Thank God, Mamet has taught me, "there is always an escape."

Hyperkinetic

The world is in crisis. People are in an uproar of the lack of exciting entertainment that can fill one's mind with wonder and amazement. Matteo Scalera, Oscar Celestini, and I have have banded together to rectify that inadequacy with my latest creation Hyperkinetic.

Hyperkinetic is a science-fiction/action-comedy about four intergalactic female bounty hunters and their robot. They crash land on a weird alien planet and have crazy adventures dealing with giant killer robots and bizarre aliens. Hyperkinetic is written by me, has art by the super talented Matteo Scalera who will soon dominate the art world, and is colored by the spectacular Oscar Celestini (I also ink the covers just so I don't get rusty).

Hyperkinetic #1 will be in comic shops July 2, 2008. It's published by Image Comics.

Here are Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, two super funny guys from Hot Fuzz. Nick suffers a bit from British teeth syndrome which I decided not to draw.

Posh

I saw a photo of Victoria Beckham in British Vogue taken by Nick Knight that I liked a lot. I thought she actually looked posh. This is my interpretation.

Saywer and The Bank Job

Here's Josh Holloway as Sawyer from "Lost" (or should I call him James?).

I saw "The Bank Job" earlier today. It's written by Dick Clement & Ian La Frenais and directed by Roger Donaldson. It's based on a true story about a bank heist in London in the early 1970s. It's pretty thrilling and I didn't have any knowledge of the true events so the contents of the safe deposit boxes that were stolen and the aftermath were all intriguing to me. Keep in mind that villains and corrupt folks put stuff in safe deposit boxes too. It stars Jason Statham who does a great job and is one of few modern actors who can convincingly portray a bad ass on screen.
